Music: Roselit Bone – “My First Name”

After barnstorming their way through SXSW this year and leaving a ton of dazed and delighted new fans in their wake, dark roots-rockers Roselit Bone are now prepared to spread their steamy, sexy gospel far and wide with the release of their new album Blister Steel. It’s the first record by the Portland group to be released with the help of Friendship Fever Records and it finds the group aiming for, and reaching, some new musical heights.

The band was kind enough to share a track from their new LP with us here at XRAY and it’s a lu-lu of swimmy organ swells, agitated vocals, and perfectly placed horn stabs. Inspired apparently by Lorne Greene, Jody Reynolds, and Billy Fury, Roselit Bone leader Josh McCaslin says that “My First Name” was “written a few years ago when I was extremely poor, young, and had been scammed out of all my money on several occasions while searching for housing and buying cars. Life at the time felt a lot like film noir.”
