XRAY DJ News (5/3/17)

On this holiest of days (aka James Brown’s birthday), we pull ourselves up from the long slumber we so richly deserved after our Spring Membership Drive and return once again to shine a spotlight on our superbad DJs and the extracurricular activities that they get up to in our fair city. Give it up and turn it loose for these wonderful people.

Nathan Carson, the marvelous co-host of Heavy Metal Sewing Circle (every Wednesday from 10pm – midnight) is a busy boy this week. For starters, he will be reading and signing copies of his fantastic new book Starr Creek at the Book Bin in Salem, Oregon at 7:30pm on Saturday May 6th.

Then on Sunday May 7th, and Monday May 8th, you can catch him spinning records at Ground Kontrol. And they will be very different sets each night: Sunday is part of the arcade’s Black Sunday series, and Monday finds him dipping into the ’80s as part of their weekly Reaganomix series.

One of Portland’s finest record shops, Green Noise, is about to make a big move to a new space on North Killingsworth this week. And they are celebrating in style with a weekend of DJs and live performances. Naturally, XRAY is gonna be in the house in a big way.

On Saturday May 6th, there will be appearances by

R. Barrows of Past Haunts @ 11:45am

DJs Skull & Bones of Strike of Death @ 4pm

DJ Klyph of Welcome To The Neighborhood @ 5pm

Vera Rubin of Shadow Cruising @ 6:30pm

The folks behind PDX Mandem are going to be part of a Tron 444 art opening happening this Saturday May 6th at The Waypost starting at 7pm.

Our beloved Music Director Theo Craig – aka DJ T-KRAY – host of Take It To The Bridge is going to be spinning records over at The Paydirt, a fine new bar over in NE Portland. He has promised a fun evening of indie, world, and psych tunes. Check out the Facebook event page right here.

Sonnambulist DJ KITTYBOT, host of Leopardus Pardalis Monday mornings at 3am, will be at Beech St. Parlor on Tuesday, May 9th playing all the hits! New Wave, No Wave, Post Punk, Goth, and more. If you like her selection of Ocelot Rock on XRAY, be sure to check it out in the flesh. Wear your favorite cat shirt and meow along!
